The School Management
Parents and Guardians
Ladies and Gentlemen
Bula Vinaka, Namaste and Good morning to you all.
On behalf of Government and the Ministry of Agriculture, I take this opportunity to acknowledge the invitation from the School Management to be your Chief Guest this morning. In my capacity as Assistant Minister for Agriculture, it is an honor for me to be here and be part of this auspicious occasion, your school annual prize giving day.
Let me foremost acknowledge the Head Teacher and staff for the very warm reception and the words of welcome accorded to me this morning. It is an honour to be here, especially to be with you, the members of my community, my family and my friends. It is an honour serving you and Fiji.
I wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge the Teachers for the tremendous work they have done throughout the year in teaching and developing our children academically, personally and spiritually. Teachers you are the back bone of our society because you highly contribute in building up our children’s characters, shaping their future and helping them to be ideal citizens of this country. The values, knowledge and skills you imparted unto them every day is the foundation of who they will become. You are like second parents. So I sincerely wish to thank you for shouldering that responsibility with us parents and guardians in raising our children. Keep up the good work and may God Bless your calling.
Let me also acknowledge the School Committee, PTFA, Support Staff and all our friends for the tireless effort in supporting and building the education of our children in this community this year. The tremendous efforts that you have contributed to this school, though it might seem little and insignificant and you may say that no one recognizes it; I wish to say to you, “Thank You”. Keep doing what you are doing and it is my prayer to God Almighty to Bless and reward you for every good deeds you have done or contributed to for our school, for our children and for our community.
Finally I also wish to acknowledge all parents and guardians for your continuous effort in supporting our children’s education. On behalf of all the students, we wish to thank you all for your labour and toil especially in the sun and rain, the sleepless nights and in putting our children’s education first. Also your commitment and unwavering support given to the teachers, school committee and to our community, I take this opportunity to thank you all.
May God continue to Bless you abundantly for your children and future generations.
Ladies and Gentlemen, there is no better time to make good use of the opportunity provided by Government in educating our children than now. The Bainimarama Government has invested a lot in our education system with the objective to advance Fiji to a level that is at par with the developed world. We want Fiji to be an educated country with high literacy rate; to be in the forefront in research and development, to be the centres for businesses and finance, and to be a leader especially in the Pacific region and in the world. That vision can only be achieved if we invest our resources, our time, and our efforts towards the education of our children. Their education should be our priority. Therefore I urge you all for your continued support. Let us give them the best we can as they will replace us and will continue our legacy to their children and to their children’s children for future generations.
Ladies and Gentlemen, as we gathered here today, let me take this time to acknowledge all the students for their hard work and commitment to their school works throughout the year. This moment belongs to you all.
Students, the Government together with Teachers, School Committee & Management and Parents are giving all our efforts to provide the best and quality education you need. That is why you are provided with free education like tuition fees, text books, bus fares, etc. The grant received is for school administration, upgrading and renovation of school infrastructure like offices, school buildings and classrooms. It is for the purchases of new equipment like
computers, photocopying machines and other stationeries. Everything is almost provided to ease the burden shouldered by your parents and also the school committee in looking for funds for your education. You have the very best been made available to you for your education and for your future so make every opportunity and don’t waste those huge investments.
While thinking of that, I wish to let you know that as students and as our children, you play a critical role in bringing about your own academic development. Like a four legged stool, Government, Teachers, Parents and you Students, we should all work together to bring about the level of education that is required for your development. We are doing our part and I urge you all, please make good use of this great opportunity. The future belongs to you and start dreaming big dreams. Nothing is impossible if you have the will. Success is yours if you work hard. So grab this wonderful opportunity that is before you.
Try to have an attitude towards learning and learning new and better things. Be creative. Express yourself, who you are and explore your potential. Most importantly, do your work with the best of your ability. Try to read as much as you can. Always ask what you do not know. Stay healthy by eating nutritious food. Be punctual. Be honest. Be truthful. Always listen and obey your Parents, Teachers and those who are older than you. Respect one another regardless of age, colour, race or religion. That is the responsibility and the role we want you to play to complete the cycle and in order for your development and education to be a success.
All your long hours of toil and perseverance towards your education has culminated today. Some of you will leave the school for high schools while others will be here again next year or for few more years. Work hard and be a good citizen. I extend my heartfelt congratulation to you all for your achievement and I also acknowledge your families, relatives and guardians for their support in making your education come true.
Ladies and Gentlemen and to our Students, let me quote from one famous Philosopher and I quote - “Great Leaders don’t follow existing path. They make their own trail for others to follow” - unquote.
Your path until now has been influenced by key persons in your life, especially your teachers, your parents, families, mentors or leaders. But from now on it is your chance to use more of your own thinking, reflections and judgements to make your own trail. You have it within yourself to do that and we as parents, guardians and teachers are confident that you can create your own path to your future.
While many of you have proven yourself as high achievers already, there are some who might be daunted by the prospects of facing challenges ahead because they have not achieved as much as their colleagues. This is a reminder that your chance to prove yourself has not ended; indeed, the really important journey has only just begun. This school has given you the foundation—and important values like integrity, good ethics, vision, humility and compassion, and the need for sheer energy and ambition—through which
you all can make an outstanding contribution especially to your families, country and indeed to the world.
You all have worked hard throughout the year, persevered and therefore deserve to be pleased and to celebrate. We join you in your happiness and wish you the best in the future.
Congratulations and to those who just finished their external exam, we wish you all the best with excellent results.
May God Bless you, have a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
