Minister Koya Acknowledges Australia's Trade Contribution

Minister for Industry Trade and Tourism Mr Faiyaz Koya and Parliamentar

Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Hon. Faiyaz Koya recently acknowledged Australia for her input towards Fiji’s trade expansion.

This was mentioned during his meeting with the visiting Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Hon. Steven Ciobo.

“Australia is a key trading partner, and has been a top export destination and the leading tourism source market for Fiji,” Mr Koya said.

“Australia’s willingness to re-engage and restore bilateral relations with Fiji will further enhance trading between the two countries.”

Fiji has now taken its rightful place and is now negotiating with Australia, New Zealand and 13 other Pacific Island countries on the new regional trade and investment agreement, PACER plus. Minister Koya further stated that Fiji looks forward to concluding a development friendly agreement that will strengthen trade and address supply side constraints within Pacific member countries.

Successful conclusion of  PACER plus will provide Fijian exporters opportunities for a long term duty free and quota free access to a combined market of 36.5 million people.

Fiji’s merchandise and services trade with Australia is valued at around F$3 billion annually.
