The Ministry is also now gearing up for the YEOSU Expo in South Korea which will be held in Yeosu, South Korea from May 12 – August 12, 2012.
Cabinet has approved Fiji’s participation at the 2012 Yeosu Expo with Fiji’s National Day earmarked on 21 July, 2012. The Prime Minister will head Fiji’s delegation to the Expo. The theme for the Expo is ‘The Living Ocean and Coasts. We aim to promote and showcase its people, products (commercial and cultural) and places in relation to the sub-theme of ‘creative maritime activities’.
Fiji is expected to Fiji will gain a lot from participating in this expo as it will interact with people from more than 100 countries and will assist in Fiji’s exposure to the Korean market.
Fiji is now reaping measurable benefits to Fiji’s participation in the Shanghai Expo which has translated to increase incoming trade and investment visits to Fiji, registered projects by Chinese investors (eg. bauxite mining by Aurum Exploration Mining Ltd). The increase publicity and visibility of the “Fiji Me” brand in the Chinese market through CCTV promotions also had remarkable impact on Fiji’s tourism arrivals from China with 18,147 visitors recorded in 2010 compared to 4,000 achieved in 2009.
