National Records Keeping Policy

Government’s commitment in achieving best practices in support of good governance will now have a notch under its belt with the recent endorsement of the intentions for a National Recordkeeping Policy for Fiji. This was approved by the Public Service Commission during its meeting in May.

The Policy has been a joint plan of the National Archives and the Public Service Commission to strengthen and standardize records management across government and its entities. This recent development will also align government’s recordkeeping procedures to international standards.

It has been tailored to apply to all government employees, including temporary and casual employees, and to contractors and volunteers. These documents include files, emails, memoranda, minutes, audiovisual, electronic, digital materials and any other documents created or received by government officers in the course of their duties. This also applies to confidential and classified records.
